PENT WORDS 107
(click here for a PDF version)

SECTION SIX 53
(click here for a PDF version)
This puzzle’s grid has six rings and six sections. Each ring contains a series of words placed end to end, reading either clockwise or counterclockwise; all the words in a given ring will read in the same direction. Ring 1 (the outer ring) contains six answers that read clockwise; the starting spaces are numbered in the grid. Clues for the answers in the remaining rings are given in order, but their starting points and direction are for you to determine. The sections (separated by the heavy lines radiating from the center) will help you place the inner rings: in a given section, each ring segment contains all but one of the letters in the next segment outward. In other words, a section’s outermost segment contains six letters; the next segment inward contains five of those six letters in some order; and so on, until only one of the original six letters remains.

Arrange the letters in the six starred spaces to form the final answer, a 6-letter word.

However, in this variation, you must add an extra letter to each pair of answers to make the longer answer (for example, you might make GERMAN SAUSAGE from ANAGRAM and GUESS plus an extra E).

Rearrange the added letters in (parentheses) to make a 6-letter word, and rearrange the added letters in [square brackets] to make a 6-letter word. Write these words in the final set of blanks, and rearrange the letters in {curly braces} to make a 6-letter word, the final answer.

SECTION SIX 52

(In the example, the rows spell PLANT, SHARE, and BITES, and the pentominoes spell the words PLANS, TREES, and HABIT.) Use the ACROSS answers to determine where the pentominoes are.

KEVIN’S PUZZLES AT HOME
SEASON 3, EPISODE 8:
FIX MY FLICKS
Kevin likes these movies, but he believes that some small changes could make them even better.

“This 1978 drama about steelworkers who are sent to fight in the Vietnam War could have earned even more profit if it had a prophet.”

“In this 1984 movie, Eddie Murphy plays a Detroit police officer who relocates to California. I would seek a sponsorship from a brand of cough drops.”

“Jim Carrey is okay in this 1994 superhero comedy, but I think that Mr. Hamill would be better.”

“This 1995 Pixar classic needs a scene in which a truck arrives to take away Andy’s parents’ car.”

“In this 1978 film, a Los Angeles Rams quarterback, played by Warren Beatty, is mistakenly taken to the afterlife by his guardian angel and returns in the body of a millionaire industrialist, whom I think should have an ugly protuberance on his body, like a bump on a toad.”
__ __ __ __ __ __    __ __ __    __ __ __ __ ➔ __ __ __ __ __ __    __ __ __    __ __ __ __
“This 2011 fantasy movie is loosely based on a fairy tale about a ‘little’ girl. In my version, the titular crimson-cloak-wearing character will have a penchant for ascending.”

“In my remake of a 1999 horror movie, those Maine residents will have a fighting chance against that 30-foot crocodile when they are armed with an implement for gathering leaves.”
